BUDDING photographer Laura Coombes, of Greenwood, has won the City of Joondalup⿿s 2015 Capture Nature photography competition to commemorate World Environment Day on June 5.

Open to youngsters aged 12 to 18 living or attending school in the City, the competition had 100 entries featuring local beaches, bushlands and wetlands with captions to describe what the image meant to the photographer.

The winners were announced from a list of 20 finalists at a presentation ceremony at Joondalup Library last Tuesday.

Laura won $300 for her image Splendid Fairy Wrens.

Judges said it was an excellent shot with nice framing and composition that would have been difficult to capture.

Jakob Thompson, of Kallaroo, came second, winning $200 for his image Misty on the Rocks.

He also won $150 as the City staff choice award winner.

Third place and $150 went to Mullaloo’s Zoe Hodgson for her image Here Be Dragons.
