FORMER police trainer and martial artist Stephen Walton will conduct free self-defence talks in the Joondalup Library this month.

The Joondalup M1FC martial arts gym owner said he decided to offer free classes to Joondalup and Wanneroo residents after seeing a need in the community. He has taught his self-awareness and defence concepts at women’s refuges, schools and specialist groups.

‘It’s not just about the physical self-defence techniques but to let people know what they should be doing and looking out for to make themselves safe,’ he said. ‘If you think of self-protection as a pyramid then ‘awareness’ would be the foundation ” the most important aspect and without good awareness skills then often people can often walk into trouble.’

The 8 Secrets to Personal Safety seminars are on Thursday, November 6, from 6pm to 7pm and Saturday, November 8, from 1pm to 2pm.

‘I am conducting these talks to hopefully share my experience on personal safety and help people to become more aware and ‘switched on’ to their environment so they can identify risks or dangerous situations.’ For more seminar times visit www.m1fc.com.au.
