Local governments lobby Federal officials

Mayors and chief executives from the cities of Joondalup and Wanneroo were in Canberra for the Australian Local Government Association's national assembly from June 14 to 17.

Moore MHR Ian Goodenough said he took Joondalup Mayor Troy Pickard and chief executive Garry Hunt to Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss's office to meet senior adviser Damian Callachor on June 18.

"We presented him with a couple of proposal documents for the Ocean Reef marina," he said. "The second thing we lobbied for was the performing arts centre. The staff member indicated the Federal Government could match the State Government's funding."

Mr Goodenough said Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts and acting chief executive Noelene Jennings had meetings with ministers earlier in the week, particularly looking for funding for the Flynn Drive dual carriageway.

He said Wanneroo was likely to resubmit the project for the next round of the National Stronger Regions Fund with a focus on meeting employment self-sufficiency criteria.

At Wanneroo and Joondalup meetings, both councils had approved sending their delegates to Canberra.
