Acting Sergeant Neil McMahon said the adventure started early one morning last month at Hillarys Marina, where the youngsters met the skipper and crew of the fishing vessel Aussie Warrior run by Mills Charters, before setting off to catch a variety of fish.

‘At the end of the trip, the youngsters and their family members had a barbecue on the vessel, and were presented with a fishing rod, reel, fishing bag and other items to take home and encourage them to keep fishing,’ Sgt McMahon said. ‘All the youth have had a difficult start in life some way or another but none of them have been involved in crime.

‘We hope that this positive experience will help keep it that way.’
