Macular degeneration: Get clear vision on eye health in Girrawheen

The macular degeneration awareness event at Newpark Shopping Centre’s Wizard Pharmacy will be an information and interaction day.

“We will be conducting free macular testing, giving advice and referring customers to an optometrist who is working in conjunction with us to provide eye health check-ups, which are covered by Medicare,” head dispensary assistant Tracy Lowthorpe said.

“Macular degeneration (MD) is very common in Australia, but not very commonly discussed.

“Prevention and early detection is the key.

“My hope is that by discussing macular degeneration within our community, we can raise awareness and hopefully begin to see a decline in MD related vision loss and blindness.

“Girrawheen is a very culturally diverse community so I have created MD tests in a few different languages so we aren’t just targeting our English speaking customers.”
