Madeley library design gets thumbs up

Laura PondWanneroo Times

THE design development of a Madeley library has been endorsed by Wanneroo City Council.

Councillors voted unanimously at the September 13 meeting to support Bollig Design Group’s concept plan for the proposed Southern Suburbs Library.

It shows a two-storey library on vacant land adjacent to the medical centre at the Kingsway City shopping centre site.

Cr Brett Treby said it was an “excellent result” that would link the centre with neighbouring Kingsway Regional Sporting Complex.

“Kingsway is unique and this is a way for the City to showcase the best of what we’ve got,” he said.

Cr Domenic Zappa agreed it was a great addition to the area. “The library itself is the missing piece of the jigsaw puzzle,” he said.

In response to a question from Cr Frank Cvitan, governance and legal manager Mustafa Yildiz confirmed the City was continuing to meet landowner Tah Land to acquire a development site. “These negotiations are ongoing and have progressed quite significantly in the last week,” he said.

Mayor Tracey Roberts said she believed negotiations were progressing “rather well”.

“All parties are hoping to see this come to fruition in the very near future,” she said.

The decision allows Bollig to produce design detail sufficient for a development application but noted commencement beyond that was subject to a resolution between the City and Tah Land.
