Madeley photographer wins youth photo comp

A YOUNG Madeley photographer has won the youth category of a national photography competition.

Abbey Tyler (17) received the accolade at the Perth National Photographic Exhibition for her image Bohemian Beauty.

Judges said it was “an excellent and beautifully printed portrait of an engaging subject, which portrays the new generations’ concept of beauty.”

Joshua Keenan (18), of Iluka, won second place in the same category for his print A View of a Lifetime.

Banksia Grove’s Chantelle Gilbert took out the Creative Youth Award with her photo Georgia and Chris Barry, of Sorrento, finished second in the monochrome category for his print titled Sarah.

Start ‘em Young earned Duncraig photographer Mark Greenfield the award for best Australian rural life print.

“This image typifies how aspects of country life get passed on through successive generations,” judges said.

“The lighting is excellent and the subject is well-positioned.”

The competition was run by the Royal Agricultural Society of WA and photos were on display during the Perth Royal Show.
