In light of the man’s arrest, police have reminded the public not to buy goods in suspicious circumstances as the purchaser risks being charged if the items are found to be stolen.

It took police two days to apprehend the alleged offender after they had tracked him to a property on Marden Grange about 8am in Aveley on July 11.

Warwick Senior Sergeant Brad Burnett alleged the 38-year-old Thornlie man locked himself in the house, before crashing a car through the closed garage door to make an escape.

A police officer received minor injuries.

Sen-Sgt Burnett said officers spotted the man and vehicle in the carpark of Dog Swamp Shopping Centre about 5.20pm.

They demanded he give himself up as they surrounded the car.

It is alleged the man, who did not have a driver’s licence, rammed the car into a police vehicle three times before making a second escape.

Police tracked him to a Barker Avenue home in Balcatta about 2.30pm on July 12, where it is alleged he again tried to slam a vehicle into patrol cars to evade capture.

But Sen-Sgt Burnett said his attempts failed and he was tasered at the scene.

A woman at the house was charged with drug offences and obstructing police.

Police allege the man stole perfume from chemists in Girrawheen and Warwick, $1000 of linen from Myer at Galleria in Morley, a vehicle in Balga and shoplifted at a Dianella supermarket.

It is alleged he stole a woman’s handbag from Westfield Innaloo and used her credit card to make hundreds of dollars in purchases.

Sen-Sgt Burtnett claimed the man had been attempting to on-sell the stolen goods at a cheap price, including hawking it to people in cars stopped at traffic lights.

He reminded the public that any shady sale attempts should be reported to police.

The man’s charges included obstructing police, assaulting police, reckless driving, driving without a licence, vehicle theft, fraud and stealing.
