Man charged with stealing for alleged depositing of cheque from Wangara car yard

POLICE recently charged a man with stealing after he allegedly deposited a $12,000 cheque that belonged to a Wangara car yard.

Senior Sergeant Stuart Fairlie said the caryard had made the cheque out to cash and given it to a former staff member to pay for secondhand vehicles in June last year.

But the cheque was never cashed.

Sgt Fairlie explained the cheque sat idle for more than a year, in which time it had left the hands of the former employee and allegedly found its way into the possession of the accused. Investigators made the arrest after tracking the cheque to the alleged offender’s bank account.

Sgt Fairlie said there was also CCTV footage of the 35-year-old Nollamara man allegedly depositing the cheque on May 19.

He is due to face Joondalup Magistrates Court on September 11.
