Man in court after chase

Clarkson Detectives Senior Sergeant Gary Saunders said police saw a vehicle reported stolen on September 9 at the Burns Beach Road and Connolly Drive intersection in Currambine on September 12.

‘Police attempted to stop the vehicle and a pursuit took place,’ Sgt Saunders said.

‘At the intersection, the stolen vehicle collided with a civilian car.

‘The accused failed to stop and kept driving.’

Sgt Saunders said police lost sight of the vehicle, but located it again about 10pm that day in Banksia Grove.

‘The driver of the vehicle was chased by police over back fences of residential houses,’ Sgt Saunders alleged.

‘He has then forced entry into a home in Reseda Elbow ” he threatened the people in the house, trying to get the car keys for their car.

‘He armed himself with a shovel and threatened them.

‘Police arrested him in the driveway trying to steal the car.’

Sgt Saunders said they charged him with armed robbery, aggravated burglary, attempting to steal a motor vehicle, stealing a motor vehicle, reckless driving, failing to stop to avoid police pursuit and not being licensed to drive.

‘He was remanded in custody, next to appear in Joondalup Magistrates Court on September 27,’ he said.
