HOCKING Primary School won the schools challenge in the Wanneroo Show this year.

Children’s section co-ordinator Meg Birch said the school had entered a flora-themed display, guided by Year 5 teacher Toni Bakreski.

“Hocking’s project demonstrated fluoro-water travelling up the xylem vessels of stems of a variety of plants and into the petals,” she said.

“They glowed yellow under ultraviolet light.”

Mrs Birch said Creaney Primary School came second for its “amazing whale shark model”.

Third prize went to Joseph Banks Secondary College for its framed collection of flora paintings.

“The show committee encourages all schools |in our area to consider entering a project on its theme for 2016,” Mrs Birch said.
