PMG56 committee member David Gaubert said the March 9 reunion marked the group’s 60th anniversary.

“In 1956 we all started our training in Perth to become PMG technicians – it is now known as Telstra,” he said.

“We worked in the Perth or country telephone exchanges and also in properties everywhere, installing telephones.

“Some even worked on Rottnest and Cocos islands and a few were even assigned to work overseas on the marine telephone cables.

“Others became technicians at ABC Radio. People all over WA will remember these technicians and their families.”

Mr Gaubert said they were now in their mid-70s and retired. They enjoyed listening to guest speaker Richard Offen from Heritage Perth highlight the buildings and events of the 1950s at the reunion.
