The Greenwood PhD candidate will spend six weeks in Mumbai and Delhi exploring issues of displacement and identity for her novel.

‘A stay at Mumbai University campus will enable me to have conversations with academics, scholars and students actively engaged in the debate around identity and displacement in women’s writing,’ Ms Murphy said.

Ms Murphy came to Australia with her young family in 1984 and developed an interest in what happens to people and their identity, particularly women, when they move countries.

As a former English as a second language teacher, she has also spent a lot of time with immigrants and refugees and wants to share those stories with others.

‘I still cannot believe that this has happened and know that it will provide context, place and depth to my narrative in ways that are only just beginning to reveal themselves.’
