SEVERAL athletics clubs are expected to benefit from a storage facility to be built in Madeley.

City of Wanneroo councillors endorsed an officer’s recommendation at the June 28 meeting for the design of a building at Kingsway Regional Sporting Complex.

It will include separate storage areas for Kingsway Little Athletics Centre, Landsdale Little Athletics Club and Kingsway Senior Athletics Club, as well as toilets and a meeting room.

It will replace storage sheds and sea container used by the clubs.

Cr Brett Treby said he was happy to support the plan for the building.

“It’s a fantastic recommendation and some long-awaited and well-deserved facilities,” he said.

Cr Domenic Zappa said local sporting groups would be “ecstatic” to hear about it.

The City has listed $668,000 in the 2016-17 capital works budget for the project, which includes a $210,000 State Government grant and a $421,000 loan borrowing from the State treasury.

Construction is expected to start in May next year and be completed by January 2018.
