Morning tea a reward for valued volunteers

The Give Happy, Live Happy event will be held at Currambine Community Centre from 10am to 11.30am to recognise the positive contribution volunteers make to the local community.

Attendees are encouraged to wear red.

For the past 13 years, the JVRC a collaboration between the City of Joondalup and Volunteering WA has supported people looking for volunteer positions within the City, as well as ensuring organisations follow best-practice guidelines in volunteer management.

With a combined total of more than six years service, Narelle Harrison and Maryanne Elliot are two of eight referral officers at the centre.

Ms Harrison said her role kept her motivated and she enjoyed being able to help those in need while acquiring new skills.

Ms Elliot said being a referral officer kept her in touch with the community and gave her an opportunity to meet new people.

About 17 per cent of Joondalup residents volunteer in community groups or organisations, which is above the Perth metropolitan average.
