Naidoc Week celebrations planned

It has organised a program of art workshops, tours and an exhibition.

The exhibition Yey Sussurus, featuring selected works by innovative indigenous female artists, will run from June 30 to July 18 at Joondalup Art Gallery in Central Walk, Joondalup.

The Gallery is open Tuesday to Friday, 10am to 2pm.

A basketweaving workshop will be offered to the community and practising artists to attend and learn contemporary weaving and textile techniques from Nyoongar artist Sharyn Egan.

The free workshop will take place at Joondalup Art Gallery on July 4 from 10am to 3pm.

A free walking tour, led by Indigenous Tours WA facilitator Greg Nannup, explores local indigenous history, culture and places of significance.

The tour starts at Central Park at noon on July 12 and places are limited. Contact the City arts officer on 9400 4230.

Perth-based artist Deborah Bonar facilitates an artist talk at Joondalup Art Gallery on Friday July 18, speaking about her personal style, painting with lyricism and delicacy, and producing work of immense visual power and complexity.

Bonar will talk through her art as she reconnects with her culture ” country, family and history.
