Wanneroo councillors endorsed a draft report at its March 4 meeting confirming the need for a community facility in Willespie Drive.
A recent review of the 2008 Pearsall Hocking community centre feasibility study reinforced the City’s earlier planning and confirmed the site suitable for a local community centre.
The review revealed needs for the locality including activities such as cooking, dancing, gardening and home renovation, a demand for health services, after school, vacation care activities and playgroup as well as interest in as community garden.
‘The facility will become a key focus in the development of the Pearsall and Hocking communities, with the main challenge being to develop a facility that is able to provide for a wide range of uses and changing needs over time,’ a council report said.
An implementation plan in the report proposed a three-year delivery for the centre estimated to cost $3,182,500.
