New school construction underway

Staff ReporterWanneroo Times

Stage 1 construction has begun ” at the site on Joseph Banks Boulevard ” with completion expected for the beginning of the 2015 school year.

Mrs Hughes said being the foundation principal of an independent public school was a ‘wonderful opportunity’.

‘It means, among other things, that I will be able to select the right staff for this community,’ she said. ‘There will be immediate high expectations of their contribution to the education of our students, including a commitment to extracurricular activities for students.’

A Facebook page created last week for the yet-to-be-named facility has received more than 500 likes.

The page will help the community to stay involved in the consultation process and keep up to date with site progress.

‘I am in the process of establishing a steering committee that will assist with selection of up to three names (for the school) that the community will then be able to comment on,’ Mrs Hughes said.

‘Similarly, work on the school logo will commence shortly and the community will also help decide the final design.’

Stages 1 and 2 of the $58.5million school will result in the administration block, classrooms, library, performing arts/music facility, cafeteria, two ovals and gymnasium being completed for the first intake of Year 7 and 8 students.

The school is expected to peak at 1400 students from Tapping, Carramar and Banksia Grove by 2020.
