Councillor Brett Treby moved the motion at last week’s council meeting after consultation with the village’s residents association.
‘The residents of Kingsway Court have expressed to me a very strong desire to increase their use of public transport to access their shopping, medical and visitation,’ he said.
To qualify for a Public Transport Authority grant, which would cover 50 per cent of the $10,400 shelter, requires an average of 15 boardings per day.
The average at bus stop 21906 on Kingsway is eight.
‘The current usage is low… that is because lack of shelter is seen as significant barrier,’ Cr Treby said.
‘A survey by Kingsway Court residents Association, showed each respondent has indicated they would use the bus services should there be a shelter at that location.’
Administration recommendations listed $50,000 per year in the draft 10-year bus shelter program, up from the $30,000 currently allocated.
