City of Joondalup dog prohibition signs stolen from Craigie Open Space

Staff ReporterWanneroo Times

All nine signs were taken some time between Friday, October 10, and Tuesday, October 14.

The theft followed a recent council decision to prohibit all dogs at Craigie Open Space.

Prior to changes made under the Dog Act 1976, owners could walk their dogs at the open space ” it is home to many quenda ” if they were under effective control.

Joondalup Mayor Troy Pickard said the incident was disappointing. ‘Walking dogs within Craigie Open Space was prohibited specifically to protect certain wildlife in that area,’ he said.

‘Replacing these signs is a costly and a timely job and the City is interested in hearing from anyone who might know about the disappearance of this signage.’

The City has replaced the stolen signs and installed additional ones to explain the significance of the local quenda population.

People who walk their dogs in prohibited areas can be fined $200.
