MEMBERS of the Northern Suburbs Stroke Support Group recently went for health checks during National Stroke Week.

Staff at the Wanneroo GP Super Clinic Pharmacy did free blood pressure checks at an event to raise awareness on September 4.

“Every nine minutes someone in Australia will be affected by stroke,” group coordinator Sally Allen said.

“One third will recover with little or no visible effect, one third will recover with a permanent disability and one third will die.

“High blood pressure is the most common cause of ‘stroke’ and it should be checked on a regular basis.

“Inactivity is also a major factor.

“Stroke affects anyone at any age.”
