Joondalup Nurture Group meets fortnightly for children up to six years old who started life in a hospital neonatal intensive care unit or special care nursery.

Member and Duncraig mum Erin Carver said parents should be aware the group was for babies born sick as well as ‘premmies’.

‘Even though the (group) slogan says ‘sick babies’, a lot of people don’t think their child is sick if they appear healthy, even through they have a medical condition,’ she said.

‘(My daughter) Abbey, unlike some premmie toddlers, has ongoing procedures and medical issues.’

Families joining nurture groups share ideas, tackle medical issues and ease isolation while their children enjoy toys and activities recommended by therapists to help physical development.

The Joondalup group meets at Beldon-Iluka Uniting Church in Beldon, 9.30am-11.30am, every second Wednesday, except school holidays.

The next meetings are May 22 and June 5 and 19.
