Ocean Reef: retired air force serviceman to deliver guest speech at Remembrance Day service

A RETIRED air force serviceman will be the guest speaker at this Saturday’s Remembrance Day service at Ocean Reef War Memorial.

Hosted in conjunction with Joondalup City RSL, RAAF Squadron leader Tony McDermott will help commemorate the 99th anniversary of the Armistice signing to mark the end of World War I.

Mr McDermott was in the air force for 39 years in Australia and overseas and was honoured with a Medal of the Order of Australia for his services to aviation maintenance.

Joondalup mayor Albert Jacob, who will be among dignitaries laying wreaths, encouraged people to attend.

Mullaloo Beach Primary School choir will sing the national anthem, Pastor Stephen Nosworthy will recite the benediction prayer and Joondalup RSL president Rick Green the Ode.

Tea, coffee and biscuits will be served following the service, compliments of the City of Joondalup.

People are encouraged to wear a poppy.
