Olympic Kingsway Sports Club to get upgraded facilities

A MADELEY soccer club is set for upgrades to its facilities.

Wanneroo councillors endorsed the concept design for change rooms and seating for Olympic Kingsway Sports Club at Kingsway Regional Sporting Complex.

The City’s report presented at the June 27 meeting said the club had been based at the site since 1973, when its original clubroom building was built, which has received additions in recent years.

The club has about 800 members and uses an external change room building north of the clubrooms, which is too small and “not to the City’s current standard”.

“The delivery of the proposed new change rooms will be critical in meeting the current and future needs of the resident club and other users of the adjacent playing fields,” the report said.

Because of existing infrastructure and layout, the City has proposed two separate buildings comprising unisex change rooms, toilets, a first aid room, umpires’ room and equipment storage area.

The building catering to the fields east of the clubrooms will include a seated terrace for 115 people, which is to be funded by the club.

The total project cost is expected to be $2.69 million, of which $200,000 is through a Federal Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development grant, $283,757 from the club, $1.52 million from an existing State Treasury loan and the remaining $683,400 is via the City’s municipal funds.

It will be put out to tender soon and construction is expected to start in December and finish next October.
