Duncraig resident to appear in Cole Porter musical, Anything Goes at Wanneroo Limelight Theatre

She will soon appear in the Cole Porter favourite Anything Goes at Wanneroo’s Limelight Theatre ” an all-singing, all-dancing tale aboard the ocean liner SS American.

Billy Crocker is a stowaway in love with heiress Hope Harcourt (played by Newman), but she is engaged to Lord Evelyn Oakleigh.

Nightclub singer Reno Sweeney and public enemy number 13 Moonface Martin join forces to help Billy in his quest to win Hope’s heart.

‘Hope is torn between the man she loves, who has no future, and the wealthy man she’s engaged to and will keep her in the lifestyle she’s accustomed to,’ Newman said.

‘The challenge is not letting her seem like a bimbo, because she isn’t, although being smart isn’t one of her strong points.

‘The key to the character is finding the right balance.’

Newman said Anything Goes appealed because it was a classic musical.

‘It’s typical Cole Port ” all light and fluffy but clever and still so amusing even today,’ she said.
