One-way traffic around civic centre recommended

The July 22 council meeting agenda includes a report recommending the City make Cafaggio Crescent and Senario Road one-way roads, which would cost $873,000.

It said the City advertised the planned partial closure in May and received three letters, from Main Roads WA, the St Anthony’s Catholic School principal and a parent.

‘The main concerns with regards to the traffic flow in the area relates to access to the Saint Anthony’s Catholic School,’ the City’s infrastructure director Dennis Blair said.

With concerns raised about school congestion at peak periods, particularly where Servite Terrace meets Dundebar Road, Mr Blair said the one-way system would allow cars leaving the area to avoid that roundabout.

‘It shows the options for school parents to access the parking areas and move out without having to return to the roundabout on Dundebar Road,’ he said. Mr Blair said the school’s request for a slip lane on Dundebar was not supported because it would affect local amenity and also impact on a church.

He said staff would work with the school and roadwise committee, and proceed with design and documentation of the changes, which the City deems essential forward civil works for the civic centre expansion.

If approved by the council, the closures would mean traffic flows only east on Cafaggio and south on Senario, exiting east on to Dundebar.
