Only one submission to Wanneroo’s engagement policy consultation

Lucy JarvisWanneroo Times

ONE person made a submission during public consultation on the City of Wanneroo’s community engagement policy.

The resident’s submission emphasised that changes to the policy should allow for discussion, development and changes through the consultation process.

The City’s administration said the policy was developed in consultation with staff and the wider community.

“The advertised 28-day public comment period asked specifically for public comment,” a July report to the council said.

It said the submission did not object to the draft policy and the council subsequently endorsed the final policy on July 25.

The policy will guide community engagement to “ensure consistent, meaningful and best practice engagement is carried out within the City”.

It said when possible, the City should delay making decisions to allow time for consultation.

But it said engagement would not be effective or appropriate in certain circumstances, such as after the council had made a final decision, if the council could not influence another agency’s decision or if there was not time to engage due to legal constraints or urgent safety issues.
