The City of Joondalup is looking to prosecute for environmental vandalism on Ocean Reef Road

THE City of Joondalup has vowed to plant two trees for every tree cut down illegally.

It follows vandalism along the coast at a Bush Forever site on Ocean Reef Road, Ocean Reef.

It was raised in a letter in the Weekender last month from Don Poynton, of Friends of North Ocean Reef and Iluka Foreshore.

‘This is vandalism of the worst kind, destroying protected nature to enlarge ocean views,’ he wrote.

The City will install two big signs, write to nearby residents asking for information and offer a reward to anyone who can provide details leading to a prosecution.

Mayor Troy Pickard said the City ‘takes this matter seriously’.

‘The City’s message to these selfish people is simple: For every tree that is cut down we will replace them with two or more trees,’ he said.

‘These environmental vandals have shown a blatant disregard for these beautiful trees’
