Knit and Natter donated 4003 knitted beanies, scarves, jumpers, baby clothes, blankets and other items to various charities last year ” double compared to the previous year.

‘The $2700 grant will be used to purchase more wool, which will be given to our ladies because usually the money for the wool comes out of their own pockets,’ group founder Eleanor Rigby said.

‘It’s really nice wool as well, better quality to last longer.’

Eleanor and her daughter Karen started the group with only six members, watching it grow to accommodate 130 women aged six to 90 in the past two and a half years.

‘It’s not just for people donating, the social aspects include keeping people in touch, people can be lonely at home,’ Mrs Rigby said. ‘The best part is watching the people blossoming. Some people have had trauma in their life; at first it’s hard to come into the club, now they’re core members of the group.’

The group recently relocated from its location at Spotlight Joondalup to ECU Joondalup.
