SEVEN years to the day after they missed out on a division one Lotto prize by just one number, a Landsdale family finally took out the top prize.

Their winning Saturday Lotto ticket from Darch Plaza Newsagency was worth close to $588,000.

“Seven years ago to the day I had five numbers with the sixth number on the line above,” the winner said.

“When I got to the last number I said to myself I’m going to get five again, but this time I had it.”

The man in his 40s described the win as “life changing”, but said he will continue his work mentoring Aboriginal children.

Lotterywest spokesperson Jennie Fitzhardinge said it was fantastic to hear a hard luck moment turn to joy.

“I’m sure his story about missing out on a division one prize by one number has now been trumped by this win,” Ms Fitzhardinge said.

“While the couple plan to continue work, they said their winnings will clear their mortgage and help support their children’s future.

“We’re now waiting to hear from our second Saturday Lotto winner with that ticket sold at Carnarvon Lottery News and Gifts.”
