PERTH’S heat wave has forced the closure of park and recreation sites in Avon Valley, Gnangara and Pinjar.

The city reached a maximum temperature of 42.5C at 3.36pm today, with similar weather forecast in the coming days.

The Department of Parks and Wildlife this afternoon announced all off-road vehicle areas in Pinjar and Gnangara would be closed until 8am Friday.

The Avon Valley National Park is closed until further notice.

An extreme fire warning has been issued for the Perth Hills and the nearby shires of Toodyay and Gingin.

“These are very hot, dry and windy conditions for a bush or grass fire,” a Department of Fire and Emergency services spokeswoman said.
