The 17-year-old started a petition for a basketball court and tennis hit-up wall at Ellersdale Park and last month it was tabled with 81 signatures at the City of Joondalup’s council meeting.

‘When I began to collect signatures, I was overwhelmed with the enthusiasm for these facilities,’ Justin said.

‘I started this petition because I felt there was a lack of sports and recreational facilities for teenagers and young adults in our area ” the only one really being the cricket nets.

‘The playground has been given a makeover, and it looks really great. But it cannot be enjoyed by the older students and teenagers.’

He said installing a basketball court and tennis hit-up wall at Ellersdale Park would be ‘an easy and fun way for many people to be involved’ and the park had suitable space and was easily accessible.

‘I believe it is a worthwhile project, especially in this day and age where we are encouraging our community to get outside and get active,’ he said.

He said though Warwick Leisure Centre was nearby, many children were not allowed to walk there alone and payment was required to use the facility.
