Plan for safer parking

A safety audit found issues with the current ‘informal’ limestone car park off Ocean Reef Road, and recommended making the median access safer with bitumen and building approach lanes.

Councillors agreed to write to the Department of Parks and Wildlife, which manages Yellagonga, for the early construction of the car park.

A council report said if the department did not start construction straight away, the City might have to close the informal car park and median access because of the audit’s safety concerns.

‘The issue then becomes one of managing the loss of the current informal parking or the City providing additional parking to that proposed in the Yellagonga Regional Park management plan,’ the report said.

Additional parking options listed in the report included nearby Cockman House.
