Plan to replace shops with more housing in Landsdale

Laura PondWanneroo Times

THE City of Wanneroo is seeking feedback on plans to create more housing instead of shops in Landsdale.

It has proposed a structure plan amendment for a 4.3ha site at the corner of Landsdale and Rangeview roads to reduce the size of the neighbourhood community centre and increase the amount of residential R40-zoned land.

The change was described as “necessary” because the centre would “not be able to attract a major supermarket tenant required to anchor such a centre and provide viability to other smaller tenants given the centre’s size and close proximity to other local centres”.

A 5000sq m area, which houses a childcare centre, will be kept under the neighbourhood centre zoning and a 3005sq m portion of land will be developed as public open space.

A City report said R40 zoning would take greater advantage of the location, which was close to public open space, schools and major arterial routes, reflecting “orderly and proper planning”.

A future primary school is planned for about 150m east of the site.

The amendment would allow the area to be subdivided into at least 50 residential lots about 300sq m to 400sq m in size.

It also includes modifications to the road layout.

The proposal is available for public comment until April 18 at www.wanneroo.wa.gov.au.
