Local poets excel at Glen Philips Poetry Prize

SHANE McCauley won first prize in the 2014 Glen Philips Poetry Prize for his entry, The Six Elements of Han Style.

The WA talent was one of many locals selected in the national competition run by the Peter Cowan Writers’ Centre.

Jackson (WA) was awarded second prize for skinvisible and Jenny Blackford (NSW) third prize for The Great Beast.

McCauley also received a Highly Commended award for Ulysses S. Grant visits the Noh Theatre, 1879 along with WA’s Kevin Gillam for Chamber musing and Madeleine Tingey for Port City.

Anna Monaghan (WA) won the Judge’s Encouragement Award for Youth for A Swimmer.

Centre acting president Susan Stevens said it was always rewarding to see WA poets performing so strongly.
