Police dogs jump into action

Dog Squad Senior Sergeant George Bogunovich and Sergeant Harry Rice demonstrated German Shepherd Tyson’s skills at catching a suspect outside the Bridgeleigh function centre.

They also brought springer spaniel Holly into the dining hall to demonstrate a search.

‘The dog squad started back in 1994 with two dogs,’ Sgt Bogunovich said. ‘Since then we’ve grown to about 38 officers.’

Sgt Bogunovich said the squad was looking for business premises that they could use after hours for training, ideally with big yards.

‘We may rock up at 1am, spend an hour or two there for dog training,’ he said.
