Police horses vaccinated against Hendra virus

Staff ReporterWanneroo Times

Equine Veterinarians Australia president Warwick Vale vaccinated 25 horses ahead of peak Hendra season which runs from May to June.

Officer in charge of the mounted section Senior Sergeant Glen Potter said it was decided to vaccinate the horses because of a perceived public health risk.

‘While it isn’t mandatory to vaccinate against Hendra it’s being encouraged across the equine industry so all of our horses have been vaccinated to minimise the risk to them, our officers and the public,’ he said.
