District stations launched Twitter accounts in late April to promote quicker communication with the public.

On May 22, officers from Warwick Police Station, using the @WarwickPol handle, tweeted a CCTV image of a woman wanted for questioning over a theft at Kingsway Sporting Complex.

Police allege the Balcatta woman (18) stole items from a bag in change rooms on May 12.

A follower of the Warwick account contacted police after recognising the woman in the picture.

Subsequently, the woman was charged with stealing.

District police boss Charlie Carver was pleased with the effectiveness of the tweet.

‘It goes to show how handy these accounts can be for us,’ he said.

‘It enables immediate contact with the public, who can quickly provide us with essential information.’
