Police tighten screws on number plate thefts

POLICE are urging people to fit anti-theft screws on their number plates amid a spate of thefts from cars.

Wanneroo Detective Sergeant Peter McGhie said the sub-district had ongoing problems with people stealing number plates from vehicles.

Crime prevention officers and Neighbourhood Watch volunteers occasionally hold free events to fit anti-theft screws on cars.

Sgt McGhie said people could also buy the screws fairly cheaply from hardware stores like Bunnings and fit them.

Stolen number plates are often used on other vehicles to commit crimes, including fuel drive-offs.
