Policies clash, says councillor

Joondalup council passed a housing strategy at its meeting last week allowing for higher density in 10 residential areas around the City.

The strategy was developed in response to the State Government’s directive calling for more residential infill.

While he supported the housing strategy, Cr Chester questioned whether this was compatible with the closure of schools in areas earmarked for higher density housing.

‘In my opinion the two policies are incompatible and short-sighted and must inevitably lead to a shortage of school places in the future as population increases,’ he told the meeting.
