With a passionate devotion to his family and his local football teams, Mr Serrao said similar Australian values would make him proud to accept his citizenship on Australia Day.
‘I think Australians consider the future, the children, the infrastructure, environment and protection for their futures, such as a wonderful care for the elderly,’ he said.
‘To me, that’s the core of a country ” family life comes first.’
Hailing from South Africa, the Wanneroo resident said the decision to follow his daughter Taryn to Australia for a study opportunity seven years ago was not an easy one to make.
‘I saw a peace come over her (Taryn) face, and the joy and freedom she had walking down the street ” that really struck me, it was like a flash and I thought, ‘I’ve got to do this’,’ Mr Serrao said.
