Public can have say on land sale

Joondalup Council voted last month to advertise the proposal to rezone the City-owned 4000sq m lot from cultural and civic to residential.

The proposed rezoning would allow the land to be sold to the Masonic Care WA, who own the adjoining property, for development as aged-care facilities.

If the council decides to proceed with the sale of the land, it is proposed the money be used to fund the proposed Joondalup Performing Arts and Cultural Centre.

Cr John Chester successfully moved an amendment encouraging the retention of the mature trees near the boundary of the site in any future developments.

Cr Brian Corr opposed the proposed rezoning, telling council it should not be considering selling off land.
