Raising funds smurf-style

It was a personal cause for Lorraine who was diagnosed with MND in June last year.

She and the family team, which had 17 members and raised more than $6000, chose the Smurf theme to tie in with the association's cornflower blue symbol.

"I hadn't heard of MND and wasn't aware of it before I was diagnosed," Lorraine said.

"Most importantly we are raising awareness about MND so people know about it. We want to tell people what it is and do anything we can do to help.

"The team at the MND Association of WA is a wonderful support to my family and I, so we are keen to help however we can. I make pampering baskets for MNDAWA to raffle, using products all donated by my very supportive friends."

MND is a degenerative disease which affects the motor cells and results in muscle weakness and paralysis, as well as impaired speaking, swallowing and breathing.
