POPPIES were proudly worn at several services held in the northern suburbs this morning to commemorate Remembrance Day.

Wanneroo-Joondalup RSL and the City of Joondalup held a ceremony at the war memorial in Central Park featuring The Challenge Brass Band’s bugler Ricky Wileman and the Beaumaris Primary School choir.

Guest speaker and Afghanistan war veteran Steve Cloutman told attendees those serving their country were doing it for the “commitment of love, not hate”.

“We put our lives on the line and sacrificed all for a deeper purpose,” he said.

“We look after our mates and look after our family because we love what’s behind us.

“We sacrifice life, limb and health for Australia and the greater community.”

About 90 people attended the Yanchep Two Rocks RSL service in Yanchep National Park, while the Quinns Rocks RSL held a ceremony at the Quinns Rocks Sports Club.

The Ocean Reef RSL will hold a sunset memorial service from 6.35pm at its memorial in the grounds of the Ocean Reef Sea Sports Club.
