The large fluoro yellow sign ” installed on private property ” features a 50km/h symbol reminding drivers coming off Joondalup Drive, where the speed limit is 80kmh, that they are entering a lower speed zone.
Wanneroo MLA Paul Miles supported the message.
‘The Regent’s Garden Aged Care facility is located on this busy street and many of the centre’s residents use this road on a daily basis,’ he said.
‘The hazards posed by speeding motorists can make it dangerous for them when entering and exiting the centre, both by car and on foot.’
Mr Miles said he believed the approved installation of speed humps on the road could cause ‘more hassles than they’re worth’.
‘With the Joondalup Fire and Rescue Station located at the western end of the street, you can imagine they might take a dim view of having to negotiate speed humps at their front door when responding to an emergency call,’ he said.
Wanneroo councillor Dot Newton said in a letter to the Times Drovers Place residents were being surveyed to determine if they support the installation of speed humps.
