Laura PondWanneroo Times

Councillor Domenic Zappa presented the petition on their behalf at last week's City of Wanneroo council meeting.

Signed by 115 people, the document asked for the speed limit to be reduced to 70km/h on Badgerup Road and adjoining Lakelands Drive.

Resident Greg Glazov also used public question time to ask what actions the City could take to reduce the problems related to "excessive traffic volume and speed" on Badgerup and adjoining roads.

City assets director Harminder Singh said it was a local distributor road in an area designated as rural and as such, expected to experience high traffic volumes and generally operate at speed limits between 70 and 90km/h.

He said the City had previously requested a speed reduction through Main Roads but it was denied.

"The traffic counts data suggests traffic volume in Badgerup Road is well within the capacity and functionality of the road," he said.

"In regards to speed of motorists, it is noted that the City does not have any authority to enforce speed limits."

He said data would be collected late next year and officers would make a recommendation based on results.
