He recently capped off a busy couple of months setting up his second store in Ellenbrook when his Romano’s Pizzeria won the best new business category at the Joondalup Business Association’s annual awards.

‘I was surprised and stoked,’ he said of the win. ‘It’s great advertising for the business.

‘I’m quite humbled by my 20 staff and what they do for me as a team.’

Mr Romano (24) said he did not know of the JBA awards until a regular customer dropped off an entry form.

The qualified chef, who was head chef at an award-winning restaurant in Perth, puts part of the success down to crucial pizza ingredients he created.

‘People rave about our base and our sauce,’ he said before saying he would recommend people ‘give going into business a go’.

‘Life’s too short; if you believe in something, in what you do, go for it 100 per cent and don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do it,’ he said.

‘Both my stores are not on main roads, we’ve built them up on word of mouth.’

He said Romano’s had won the WA favourite pizza and cheap eats categories in the I Love Food Awards earlier this year.

And about how many pizzas did he sell each week?

‘That’s a secret,’ he said.
