Running for cause close to her heart

Britney (17) was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes three years ago and said many people did not understand the illness.

‘It’s kind of frustrating and it can be hard to explain to people,’ she said.

‘I often feel like I’m being judged.’

Britney is currently studying a diploma of enrolled nursing at Tafe and is eager to help other people understand that life with diabetes will get easier. ‘When I was first diagnosed I was absolutely devastated,’ she said.

‘And when I see newly diagnosed people I can see the fear in them, but I want them to know it’s not as bad as it seems, just keep your head held high and you will adjust to your new lifestyle.’

By taking part in the run and holding a high tea for family and friends, Britney is aiming to raise $1500 for Diabetes WA.
