Before starting her Diploma of Community Services, Ryianna worked at a local dry cleaners and felt compelled to use her past experience to help the young.
‘I needed to do something that was not only challenging but also meaningful,’ the single mum said.
‘Working with disadvantaged young people is where I see my true purpose.’
After completing a Diploma of Community Services, her dream became a reality when she was offered a job at Drug and Alcohol Youth Services where she interacts with young people dealing with substance abuse.
‘I went through many difficult situations as a teenager and I managed to get through them, so I figure why not share that experience with others who may be able to take something from it,’ Ryianna said.
‘Sometimes sharing my past experiences with these young people is all they need to get on the right track.’
Community Service lecturer Priscilla Shorne said Ryianna excelled academically and was a natural at community work.
Ryianna hopes to start her own community service for disadvantaged youth.
