Sailing for Simpson

John BirdWanneroo Times

Andrew Simpson was an Olympic gold and silver medallist and America’s Cup sailor who lost his life in an accident while preparing for the America’s Cup.

As a precursor to the coming sailing season at the Hillarys club, the race will bring together yachts from the keel, dinghy and cruising divisions to maximise participation and fundraising efforts.

The northern rock wall groyne on Northside Drive, Hillarys Marina, will provide great viewing of the start of the race at 10am.

An opportunity to sail will be provided at the club on Sunday, November 2.

– A grand parade of boats decorated in a Disney theme will be a colourful spectacle on the opening day of the 2014-15 sailing season at Hillarys Yacht Club on Sunday, October 5.

The main event, the Commodore’s Cup, will follow, maybe with skippers still in their Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse or Goofy outfits.

Scrooge will be handing out prize money to winners, while good food and entertainment will ensure members have a great afternoon and evening. For more information, call Hillarys Yacht Club on 9246 2833.
